FAQ AT PONT ROULANT PROTECH
-
Q: What is Protech’s warranty?A: Protech wants you to be 100% satisfied. At a minimum, all our products and installations are guaranteed for 2 years for parts and labour. Some hoist brands have warranties longer than 2 years.

Q: What are the differences between the chain hoist and the cable hoist?A: The chain hoist is generally used for small applications, up to 5 tons. Beyond 5T, the cable hoist takes over. In addition, the chain hoist is less expensive but it is also less compact than the cable hoist.

Q: What is the variable frequency technology offered on Protech overhead cranes?A: The movement of our overhead cranes and trolleys achieves smooth acceleration and braking using a variable frequency drive (VFD), which is supplied as standard. In the same way that when you take the highway by car, you go from 0 to 100 km/h gradually, this is what Pont Roulant Protech offers. With our technology, the lifespan of the brake is optimized, such as an electric car almost never needing to use its brakes. Without variable frequency drives, each time you released the button, the mechanical brakes would engage to slow and stop the movement of the bridge. This wears down the brakes over time, which might need to be replaced every few months, due to mechanical wear. Over time, these sudden movements cause excessive stress and wear to the following components: transmission, including couplings, keys and gearboxes; trolley, bed bases and wheels; Increased stress is also felt on the track beams and structural supports, as well as the cable or chain used to lift the load. Unfortunately, old contactor technology is still too often used in the overhead crane industry, inevitably increasing recurring maintenance costs and to the detriment of user safety. The smooth, controlled accelerations and decelerations offered by our technology eliminate hook swinging. This eliminates any possible accidents caused by the sudden braking of old contactor technology, eliminating unpredictable movements of the load.
